Getting Started

Found an opportunity that interests you? Want to learn more? Here are the next steps to begin volunteering with most of our volunteer opportunities.

Step One

Complete a Volunteer Application! To return the application, you can:

  • Email it to volunteer@facetscares.org,
  • Fax it to 703-352-5088,
  • Mail it to our office at 10565 Fairfax Blvd., Suite 10, Fairfax VA 22030,
  • or bring it by in person!

Step Two

Attend a volunteer orientation. Upcoming dates are as follows:

  • Monday, April 26th at 6:00 pm *

Orientations will be held at FACETS main office, Suite 300 (directions), unless noted otherwise. FACETS general orientation will last approximately one to one and a half hours. Refreshments will be provided!

Please RSVP to Carrie Idol-Richards, Volunteer Manager, if you'd like to attend so we know to expect you and how much food to provide. You are welcome to attend before completing your volunteer application if you would like to learn more about us first!

*These dates also include Youth Program Training immediately following the general orientation, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, for those interested in working with our Education and Community Development programs.

Please also note that in the case of inclement weather, we will follow the Fairfax County School schedule. If schools are closed, or afternoon activities are cancelled, volunteer orientation will also be cancelled.

 

If you would like to attend an orientation but can't make any of the upcoming dates, please contact us, and we can email you with future dates and times as they are scheduled.

Step Three

Complete an in-person interview with the Volunteer Manager. This is a time for us to discuss your specific interests, skills, and availability. That way, we can match you with a volunteer opportunity that will be a great fit for you!

Step Four

Begin volunteering! For a few volunteer positions, there may be additional training required before you start. However, after your interview, most volunteers will be ready to start!
