FACETS offers prevention and diversion services to people without homes and at risk of homelessness. Our Eviction Prevention Team works with Fairfax County court-involved households at risk of eviction. The primary purpose of this position is to advocate for clients and shepherd them through the application process as a liaison with Fairfax County’s Coordinated Services Planning.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work daytime hours Mon-Friday and occasional evenings and weekends.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, government, or related field or comparable work/volunteer experience.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English; with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the agency.
- An energetic, dynamic and engaging personality with a strong work ethic and service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail and time management skills. Must be able to track cases and follow-up as needed in a timely manner.
- Strong computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Must be able to pass criminal background and Child Protective Services background checks.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
- Reliable transportation with proof of insurance
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Conduct outreach at the Fairfax County courthouse each Friday and as needed to identify residents at or below 80% of the Area Median Income who are unable to make rent payments.
- Engage residents by phone and in-person to explain the assistance available and help them assemble the documents needed to apply for assistance.
- Establish relationships with private landlords to elicit their cooperation in the rent assistance process. Help landlords understand the program and the documents they need to provide for the application.
- Effectively communicate with Fairfax County staff responsible for the program to resolve difficulties or address unique circumstances.
- Keep detailed records and submit reports of program activity and outreach, meeting established program goals.
- Work cooperatively with all FACETS staff to meet FACETS goals; participate in agency and program staff meetings to share ideas and program updates.
- Represent FACETS in the community, in accord with Agency Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethics.
- Other duties as assigned.
This is a temporary position with the potential to transition into a permanent position.
