Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program

 

 

This year FACETS Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program will be operated at 31 Church locations in Fairfax County.  These sites offer dinner, a warm place to sleep, professional case management services and breakfast the next morning, helping our neighbors experiencing homelessness find respite from the cold winter nights and a path to a home.

In operation since 2003, the program has evolved from solely offering a safe haven to also offering life-enhancing programs. In the 2015-2016 season, FACETS served 386 guests in our Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program. 125 guests engaged in case management services, leading to 34 individuals being rapidly rehoused and not returning to sleeping in the woods, their cars or on the streets at the conclusion of the program.

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

For the week of Sunday, Jan. 20– Saturday Jan. 26, 2019:

HYPOTHERMIA PREVENTION
SHELTER PROGRAM (GREEN)
Will be hosted daily from 5:00 pm to 7:00 am at

Saint Mary of Sorrows
5222 Sideburn Road, Fairfax VA, 22032

Van pick-ups to St. Mary’s of Sorrows will occur in the evenings at 5:00 and 5:45pm in the front parking lot of the Lamb Center located at 3160 Campbell Drive. The Lamb Center will still close at 3:00pm daily.

Public transportation to St. Mary’s of Sorrows is available from Fairfax Blvd at Campbell Dr. via CUE-GREEN BUS ROUTE 2 towards GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY. Exit at UNIVERSITY DR & AQUIA CREEK LANE. Depart from UNIVERSITY @ AQUIA via CONNECTOR BUS 306 towards PENTAGON. Exit at BRADDOCK ROAD & SIDEBURN ROAD. Walk 0.9 miles to 5222 SIDEBURN RD.

St. John Neumann Church

Van pick-ups to St. John Neumann will occur in the evenings at 5:00pm, 6:00pm, and 7:00pm at the RESTON TOWN CENTER TRANSIT STATION. To get to the pick-up site from the Fairfax Circle area, take the METROBUS 2B from BLAKE LANE & LEE HIGHWAY towards DUNN LORING STATION and get off at GALLOWS RD. & PROVIDENCE FORST DR. Take the FAIRFAX CONNECTOR BUS 401 towards TYSONS WESTPARK and get off at TYSONS WESTPARK. Board FAIRFAX CONNECTOR BUS 574 towards RESTON TOWN CTR. Get off at RESTON TOWN CTR BAY K. Arrive at Reston Town Center Transit Station.

St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church
6320 Hanover Avenue, Springfield, VA 22150

Public transportation to St. Christopher’s is available from Arlington Blvd. & Pickett Rd. Via METRO BUS 1C towards DUNN LORING STATION. Get off at INOVA FAIRFAX HOSPITAL and board FAIRFAX CONNECTOR BUS 402 towards FRANCONIA-SPRINGFIELD. Get off at COMMERCE ST AND BRANDON AVE. Walk West on Commerce to Monticello and follow Monticello one block west to St. Christopher’s.
The Metro 18 bus (18 G, H, P, and J) runs east and west along Old Keene Mill (one block south of St Christopher’s location). Other routes that have stops within easy walking distance to the church include the Connector’s 310 and 401/402 routes.

Board FAIRFAX CONNECTOR BUS 402 towards FRANCONIA-SPRINGFIELD. Get off at AMHERST AVE AND HIGHLAND ST. Walk 0.1 miles and arrive at 5800 Backlick Rd.
