Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program

 

 

This year FACETS Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program will be operated at 31 Church locations in Fairfax County.  These sites offer dinner, a warm place to sleep, professional case management services and breakfast the next morning, helping our neighbors experiencing homelessness find respite from the cold winter nights and a path to a home.

In operation since 2003, the program has evolved from solely offering a safe haven to also offering life-enhancing programs. In the 2015-2016 season, FACETS served 386 guests in our Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program. 125 guests engaged in case management services, leading to 34 individuals being rapidly rehoused and not returning to sleeping in the woods, their cars or on the streets at the conclusion of the program.

Van pick-ups to Pender United Methodist will occur in the evenings at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. in the Lamb Center parking lot located at 3160 Campbell Drive. The Lamb Center will still close at 3:00 pm.

Public transportation to Pender UMC is available from Draper Dr. at Fairfax Blvd. via CUE-GOLD BUS ROUTE 1 towards METRORAIL STATION. Exit at Vienna/Fairfax GMU Metro Station. Depart from METRO VIENNA/GMU S BAY R via FAIRFAX CONNECTOR BUS 651 towards CHANTILY-LEE RD. Exit at LEE JACKSON MEMORIAL @ ALDER WOODS DRIVE. WALK to 12401 ALDER WOODS DRIVE.

Depart from GALLOWS RD & FFX HOSP EMER ENT via 1A towards Ballston. Exit at ARLINGTON BLVD & MARSHALL ST. Walk about 0.3 miles to 3022 Woodlawn Avenue.

Van Transportation: Redeeming Grace Church will be providing van transportation to hypothermia. Pick up will be at the Lamb Center

Public transportation to Soujurn and Redeeming Grace Church is available from Fairfax Blvd & Campbell Dr via CUE BUS SYSTEM towards GREEN 2 line. Walk South onto Campbell Dr. toward Fairfax Bld. Turn left onto Fairfax Blvd. Ride bus and exit at UNIVERSITY DRIVE AT OCCOQUAN. Walk West on University Dr. Get on FAIRFAX CONNECTOR bus 306 PENTAGON, exit at BRADDOCK RD and OX RD. Walk 1 mile heading Southeast, turn Right toward VA-123 S then turn Left onto VA-123 S, turn Right onto State route 654, Redeeming Grace Church will be on the right at 5200 Ox Road.

St Peter’s in the Woods

Van Pick Up from: to St Peter’s in the Woods will occur in the evenings at 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 pm in the Lamb Center parking lot located at 3160 Campbell Drive. The Lamb Center will still close at 3:00 pm. If two runs are required they will be as soon as they can return to Lamb center after first run. No need to worry about dinner as serving will not start till 6:30 PM or till all are checked in.
Public transportation: Metro Bus Route from Fairfax Circle Area to St. Peter’s in the Woods Church: Walk – 5 min – 0.1 miles to Fairfax Blvd at Campbell Dr. Walk approx. 1 block SE on Unnamed. Turn right on Fairfax Blvd. Walk a short distance E on Fairfax Blvd. Arrive at – Fairfax Blvd at Campbell Dr. Board bus CUE-Green Bus Route 2 at 12:58pm toward TO GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY and Ride for 13 mins. Disembark at UNIVERSITY DR & OCCOQUAN LA at 1:11pm. Board bus Fairfax Connector Bus 306 at 1:55pm toward PENTAGON and Ride for 48 mins. Disembark at METRO PENTAGON BAY L4 at 2:43pm. Walk – 3 min – 0.1 miles to PENTAGON TRANSIT CENTER + BUS BAY L3. Walk a short distance E on Unnamed. Turn right on S Eads St. Walk approx. 1 block E on S Eads St. Board bus 18P at 3:20pm toward BURKE CENTRE and Ride for 42 mins. Disembark at BURKE CENTRE PKY & OAK GREEN WAY at 4:02pm. Walk – 4 min – 0.1 miles to destination. Use undefined exit. Walk a short distance E on Burke Centre Pkwy. Facing the mall, walk to your left to Route 123, cross the street at the light and turn left, go past the St. Peter’s sign to parking lot entrance. Follow parking lot into the church.
