An Evening of Community and Possibility

Gratitude Highlights: On April 30, 2026, more than 200 supporters gathered for FACETS by the River — an evening rooted in community, legacy, and the work ahead. Here are a few moments worth sharing.

Where it began: The program opened with a conversation with Linda D. Wimpey, who in 1988 gathered volunteers in her basement and began serving 25 hot meals a night to neighbors experiencing homelessness along the Route 50 corridor. That single act of compassion became FACETS. Hearing Linda tell that story, in her own words, set the tone for everything that followed. Watch Linda’s story.

A legacy honored: The evening continued with a tribute to Congressman Gerry Connolly, a steadfast champion for the communities FACETS serves. Congressman James Walkinshaw offered moving remarks on Connolly’s legacy, before introducing Caitlin Connolly, who spoke about families in need, shared opportunity, and the civic values her father embodied. Watch the tribute honoring Congressman Gerry Connolly.

The work ahead: More than 60,000 neighbors in Fairfax County live in poverty, over 1,300 experience homelessness, and one in three working families is one paycheck from crisis. FACETS has grown to nearly 100 strong — and this year, Fairfax County asked us to take on operations of Bailey’s Shelter, a testament to the trust this community has placed in us.

“Fairfax County has the resources, the institutions, and the will. And FACETS is building the organization to match that ambition.”— Joe Fay, Executive Director
