Volunteer Appreciation Event 2024

FACETS was thrilled to recognize the impact of our volunteers on the community at our Volunteer Appreciation event on April 26th! We had a great turnout with nearly 100 guests from our many programs across Fairfax County.

In addition to our volunteers and community partners, we were honored to have City of Fairfax Mayor Catherine Read, Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw, Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid, Community Engagement Chief for Congressman Gerry Connolly Ronell Chatmon, and several current and former FACETS Board members in attendance. We were grateful to Fairfax Presbyterian Church for hosting the event that evening.

Thanks to our volunteers, we are able to center our services on the community! FACETS began as a volunteer-based organization, and today we continue to work closely with our community partners, faith organizations, and thousands of individual volunteers who help us continue to provide these services.

We featured five awards at our Volunteer Appreciation event to acknowledge how your service has helped build stronger futures over the last year.

Dayatra Spalding, Case Manager and Hypothermia Site Coordinator, presented the Volunteer Group of the Year award to our hypothermia host locations. This past season they welcomed 380 guests over 18 weeks of service, and thanks to their support, FACETS was able to connect with and house 18 individuals.

Terry Angelotti, Director of Community Development, presented the Fledgling of the Year award to Bob Hunter, who started volunteering after joining us at the breakfast event last October.

FACETS Board member Zaki Saleh recognized the outstanding service of intern Lena Roberts for the Permanent Supportive Housing team, naming her Intern of the Year.

Chief of Staff Katie Davenport presented the Corporate Volunteer of the Year award to Starbucks Corporation, and the award was accepted by store manager Juergen Flassbeck.

And FACETS Executive Director Joe Fay presented the Volunteer of the Year award to Betsy Miles, our amazing administrative volunteer, in recognition of almost a dozen years of service to the organization!

Many thanks for being an integral part of amplifying FACETS’ mission and work across Fairfax to support our community in need!
