Success Story

A First Generation College Student

Ali often found himself at the Robinson Square ECD Center with his siblings, playing basketball with volunteers and getting Homework Help.

Ginny, a beloved long-time volunteer, and Peter, a volunteer and former FACETS Board Member, took a special interest in Ali’s academic career. Peter helped tutor Ali starting his freshman of high school. Despite the challenges of caring for his younger siblings, he ended the year with a nearly 4.0 GPA. It was time to think about college. Ginny, Peter, and Ali worked together on scholarship and financial aid applications, college application essays, and more. Starting Fall of 2023, Ali will be a first generation college student at George Mason! We are so proud of Ali’s success, and know his triumphs will positively affect not only himself and his family, but our entire community.
