Data and Communications Specialist

POSITION:                   Opportunity Neighborhood Data and Communications Specialist

Position Summary:

An Opportunity Neighborhood (ON) utilizes a collective impact approach to help children, youth, and families reach their fullest potential through a strong academic foundation, family and community stability, and a culture of engagement, connectedness, and success. FACETS is the lead organization for ON-Annandale and ON-Centreville. The ON Data Analyst will work in partnership with the Strategy Manager for that area and will have primary responsibility for two annual community surveys, event evaluations, monthly program reports, and database development. In addition, this person will find ways to standardize and share data across organizations. This data will be crucial to creating a community where—from cradle to career—every child and youth has the opportunity to access the resources needed to thrive.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Analysis

  • Solicit participant evaluations for each event and identify trends to improve programming.
  • Maintain records on Neighborhood Ambassadors’ attendance at Council meetings and trainings, as well as records on stipends for completing ten hours of outreach work per month.
  • Work with Strategy Managers and Community Organizers to develop annual community surveying tool.
  • Analyze survey responses and compile into a report to share with partners and the community, being part of the presentation team as available.

Data Base Development

  • Design database and populate initial records with information from excel spreadsheets.
  • Maintain database with current information, updating after each event.
  • Coordinate with initiative partners to align and share data.

Communications

  • Support Community Organizers in using database to send mass text messages to individuals and groups to promote Opportunity Neighborhood events and share information.
  • Designs flyers for use by Organizers and partners.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in data analysis, international relations, political science, conflict resolution, or a related field, or have equivalent experience in community development or other non-profit work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community issues, and to achieving racial and social equity.
  • Strong English writing skills required; experience with public speaking desired.
  • Demonstrated success building effective relationships, ideally in a network or collective impact model.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter.
  • Strong time and task management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and working with diverse groups of people.
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings and have reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Annandale or Centreville area is highly desirable, as is fluency in a second language spoken in the primary communities we serve—Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic, Urdu, or Pashto.
  • Strong computer, Microsoft Office Suite, database, Canva (or other graphic design tool) and standard office equipment skills.
  • Must pass criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • While this position is mostly performed in a standard office environment, it may involve some community work. Job duties will be completed from home if community health conditions require it.
  • Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.

Salary Range:

$20-25/hour, 20-30 hours/week
