LOCATION: In-Person, Alexandria and Fairfax, Virginia
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Housing Locator in our Homeless Services Program. The Housing Locator plays a vital role in our mission to provide safe and stable housing solutions to individuals experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of housing resources, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate approach towards supporting vulnerable populations.

FACETS is a non-profit organization that opens doors by helping parents, their children, and individuals who suffer the effects of poverty in Fairfax County. We meet their emergency needs through our wrap around services and community partnerships, and help individuals and families experience safe and stable housing after years of uncertainty and instability. We strive to ensure that every person in our community has a place they can call home. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clients Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of clients to determine their housing needs, preferences, and eligibility for various housing programs.
- Resource Identification: Research and identify available housing resources, including affordable apartments, shelters, transitional housing, and supportive housing programs within the community
- Outreach and Networking: Establish and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, housing agencies, and other community partners to secure housing options for clients.
- Application Assistance: Assist clients in completing housing applications, ensuring all necessary documents are submitted accurately and on time.
- Housing Navigation: Provide guidance and support to clients in navigating the housing application process, and addressing any barriers or challenges they may encounter.
- Housing Placement:Coordinate housing placements for clients, ensuring a smooth transition into their new homes. This may include arranging moving logistics and connecting clients with essential services.
- Case Management: Maintain accurate up to date client records, documenting housing plans, progress, and any supportive services provided.
- Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of clients to property owners and managers, addressing any concerns and ensuring clients are treated fairly and respectfully.
- Education: Educate clients on tenants’ rights, responsibilities, and housing-related resources to empower them in maintaining stable housing
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Counseling, Human Services, or related field. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience working in homeless services, housing programs, or social services
- Knowledge of local housing resources, rental markets, and tenant rights.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards clients experiencing homelessness
- Proficiency in relevant computer applications, including Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds
- Possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance
- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van
- Must pass criminal and Child Protective Services background checks
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.
Salary Range:
$40,000 – $45,000 annually
