LOCATION: In-Person, Fairfax, Virginia or Annandale, Virginia

FACETS is hiring a part-time Resident Counselor (RC) 4:00 p.m. to 12:00am Monday to Friday for FACETS’ group homes serving chronically homeless individuals, who are medically vulnerable, located in Fairfax, VA. Under the direction of the Director of Supportive Housing, the RC will provide supportive counseling, community living skills training, medication monitoring, and crisis interventions to chronically homeless individuals in a group home setting. The RC is responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment while implementing programming to facilitate residents’ attainment of rehabilitation goals. RC directly teaches independent living skills through group and individual training sessions and provides transportation as necessary. The RC is responsible for providing staff coverage for the safety and security of residents, and the program at all times. Familiarity with the chronically homeless population and the “housing first” model is essential. The successful candidate will have experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness that are seriously mentally ill, actively using substances, and/or medically vulnerable. Significant independence of judgment and exceptional interpersonal skills are required in this position. A candidate bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision and assistance to residents
  • Assist the case manager with developing, implementing, and monitoring residents’ individual service plans
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the residents’ needs are met.
  • Monitor and report any maintenance, health, fire, and safety issues
  • Ability to learn to document residents’ behavior and progress in HMIS
  • Represents FACETS in the community, in accord with Agency Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred plus two years of professional social work/case management experience with homeless and/or at-risk populations preferred.
  • Knowledge of current social service, homeless, and housing issues and methods/approaches to address issues.
  • Knowledge or understanding of tenant’s rights and responsibilities as well as “strengths based” case management.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Requires basic knowledge of facility and household cleaning and repairs.
  • Candidate must be able to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds.
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance.
  • Must provide proof of COVID vaccination.
  • Candidate must be able to drive 15 passenger van.
  • Candidate will be required to pass criminal background and Child Protective Services background checks.
  • CPR Certification Preferred
  • 1 year of caregiving experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.

Salary:

$17.00 per hour

FACETS offers a competitive salary commensurate with qualification/experience. Higher salary will be considered for eligible candidates with a current VA Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification.

If a holiday falls on a day when a regular part-time employee is normally scheduled to work, the amount of the employee’s pay for that day is prorated based on the number of hours they are scheduled to work that day.
